E-Waste - Certain components of some electronic products contain materials that render them hazardous, depending on their condition and density. E-waste is a popular, informal name for these electronic products nearing the end of their "useful life." Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are common electronic products . Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled. There is no clear definition for E-waste; for instance, whether or not items like microwave ovens and other similar "appliances" should be grouped into the category have not yet been determined. However, at his time, the EPA has determined that computer monitors larger than 6" are considered toxic waste or E-waste. This material must now be properly recycled under the SB-20 law and cannot be deposited in land fill or shipped overseas.
Our mission here at Renew Computers is to gather, sort, and properly dispose of large volumes of computer equipment. Much of this material can be reused, refurbished, or recycled. Very old and outdated equipment must be properly recycled. However, there are many good computers that can be refurbished and reused. We separate the good reusable product from the outdated product at our facility. We refurbish that which can be reused and pass the remainder on to other certified recyclers for proper disposal. In 2008 Renew Computers properly recycled or reused more than 270,000 pounds of electronic waste. We are an authorized e-waste collector and certified and audited annually by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB). We do not ship product to be processed overseas.
